Discussion:
2.6.34-rc1 on zaurus: does it boot for you?

Hi!

I tried compiling 2.6.34-rc1, and it does not boot :-(. It does not
seem to even reset the framebuffer (I'm using kexec -- so it stays
stuck on on previous screen).

Tried again with -rc2 and -rc3, and neither boots :-(. I did not have

I can report linux-kexecboot 2.6.34-rc3 is booting on corgi / c7x0.

In kexecboot, always same issues: SD card is not sensed after rescan,
(but CF is), power button does nothing.

Regards

Andrea

Just have some time to try this out on my corgi, and the kernel runs

Pavel,

Which exact model are you running your kernel?

Pavel,

It is Zaurus SL-C3000 (aka spitz). I'm using kexec, but that used to
work. Should I try minimal config?

Pavel, in a few hours I'll commit kernels+ configs for
linux-kexecboot_2.6.34-rc3 for all Zaurus. Testing needed!
No sound, no usb, no network.

I'm pretty sure you'll boot this little one.

BTW I was trying to remove the deprecated HAVE_IDE in favor of
HAVE_ATA but doing this the CF card was not detected anymore on my
corgi.
This is the last deprecated driver iirc.

Cheers

Andrea

I'm using kexec as well, but on corgi. My akita is not on hands these
days, otherwise I can give it a try. I guess there is nothing fundamentally
wrong, so yes, I think it's feasible to try minimal config.

FYI:

I've just booted on my spitz 2.6.34-rc3 built with OE (config from Andrea), then kexec to 2.6.33.

Hi!

Post by Eric Miao
Just have some time to try this out on my corgi, and the kernel runs
happily.
Pavel,
Which exact model are you running your kernel?
It is Zaurus SL-C3000 (aka spitz). I'm using kexec, but that used to
work. Should I try minimal config?
I've just booted on my spitz 2.6.34-rc3 built with OE (config from Andrea), then kexec to 2.6.33.
http://git.openembedded.org/cgit.cgi/openembedded/commit/?id=adadb0343015894e33032b53d87e3e03a368a594
Ok, so you used this config? I'll try...
Pavel

It is Zaurus SL-C3000 (aka spitz). I'm using kexec, but that used to
work. Should I try minimal config?
I've just booted on my spitz 2.6.34-rc3 built with OE (config from Andrea), then kexec to 2.6.33.

Pavel,

fwiw I did some minor adjustments and now config for spitz is

# Automatically generated make config: don't edit

http://cgit.openembedded.org/cgit.cgi/openembedded/tree/recipes/kexecboot/linux-kexecboot-2.6.33+2.6.34-rc3/spitz/defconfig

I attach here the diff. Nothing obvious for me...

Regards

Andrea

P.S: I'll have to clean a bit more the defconfigs (see ACL stuff).
Next round soon.

I've build and tested a 2.6.34-rc3 kernel and tried this on my C860 and
C3200. In general all seems to work okay, but...

- Sound on C860 can be weird, with lots of (extra) noise. Sound on Spitz
is working fine.
- Can any of you tell me what the status of suspend/resume currently is?
Suspending the device using the power button doesn't seem to work.

I will try to test the same kernel on my Akita as well tomorrow. I forgot to
test networking, so that will need some testing too.

Cheers,
cortez

Pavel,
fwiw I did some minor adjustments and now config for spitz is
# Automatically generated make config: don't edit
# Linux kernel version: 2.6.34-rc3
# Thu Apr 8 00:56:38 2010
http://cgit.openembedded.org/cgit.cgi/openembedded/tree/recipes/kexecboot/linux-kexecboot-2.6.33+2.6.34-rc3/spitz/defconfig
I attach here the diff. Nothing obvious for me...
Thanks. This one actually boots for me (up to 'can't mount /', after
disabling initrd)-- now I'll have to find out which difference is
critical.

Pavel

Pavel, you broke it ... and here you say something about sane arm maintainers
;-)
? You know which patch causes it ?
Just have some time to try this out on my corgi, and the kernel runs
happily.
Pavel,
Which exact model are you running your kernel?
It is Zaurus SL-C3000 (aka spitz). I'm using kexec, but that used to
work. Should I try minimal config?
I've just booted on my spitz 2.6.34-rc3 built with OE (config from Andrea), then kexec to 2.6.33.
http://git.openembedded.org/cgit.cgi/openembedded/commit/?id=adadb0343015894e33032b53d87e3e03a368a594
Could you try booting to 2.6.34-rc3, then kexecing 2.6.34-rc3? I'm
starting to suspect kexec has something to do with my problem...
